We can't wait to see you on Sunday for the 2023 Cheddar Gorge Challenge!
All our Event Info, and now the start lists have been published to our website here. There is quite a bit of information, particularly if you are racing the Omnium, which may need you to give it some focused time to get your head around now, rather than breezing through it with your breakfast or on the drive over :-)
It is important you take a look at the whole Event Info documents, here is just a summary of some of the key points;
1) Race numbers - all race numbers are collected on race day in our event village. You will collect your race number by your Race Distance. Numbers will be laid out on desks for you to collect yourself - please look up your number online now and write it down so you can collect your number quickly on the day. Phone reception isn't great at the venue so looking it up on your phone might be tricky.
Please don't take away the paper weights that we are using the weight down your race number, we need them for the next race.
2) Start lists - these are now published on our website.
3) Parking - Follow the Relish Running signs when you are within the final mile of the event postcode; Warren Farm, BS407XR. Or using What3Words /// quaking.salt.rhino It is 2min walk from the car park to the race start/finish. Parking is £2/car payable to the farmer, please have cash ready for the parking team, thank you.
4) Race start - you need to start in the wave that you registered for as all the start times are pre loaded into the timing computers. If you set off early, not only will be your time be inaccurate, this will effect all other runners too!
We can not make any changes to waves within a distance, but you can still change your race distance by going to the Event Info desk on the morning of the race.
5) Suncream, caps, glasses
It is going to be HOT! Take care of yourself by preparing well. The course is tough, there is no shelter on the course or in the event area.
6) Keeping hydrated!
Please bring your own water for before, during and after your run.
For environmental reasons, and to ensure you are able to look after yourself on this tough course in warm weather, wer highly recommend that everyone carries their own water. Long distance racers should carry their own bottles and refill at out drinks stations. We do have cups, so there is no need to suffer, it is important you stay hydrated, but please be aware of the sustainable direction the events are moving.
As always, we will have superbly stocked feast stations with food and drink to power you around the course, but it is important you can keep yourself topped up between these feast stations stop which come ever 5km or so.
Ommium runners definitely need their own bottles for the long afternoon of events.
There is water for all runners at the finish line.
7) Can people still register on the day? Yes you can for all race distances. Please check the schedules online which show the start times for people registering on the day.
9) Refreshments - there are a couple of caterers including a coffee van. We will of course be offering our usual selection of tasty treats at the finish line and as well as every 5km on the 10km, half marathon and marathon courses
9) Bag drop - we have a bag drop in the event village. Self drop and collect, show your baggage tag which matches your race number to one of our marshals to remove your bag. Please allow plenty of time to do this before your race starts
10) Toilets - we have portaloos and men's urinals in the event area. It is very important that you use these and not sprinkle the hedgerows! There is one portaloo positioned for marathon runners on the start of Lap 2.
11) Results - There is zero signal on site which will slow our ability to post results. We will aim to post the results from Sunday by 9pm on our website here. We will aim to compile all the Omnium standings by 6pm on Monday. Please bear with us if we miss these times, rest assured we will be working on them!
12) Music Only bone conducting headphones are permitted, we need you to be able to hear marshal calls and traffic at the road crossings,
13) Photos - Professional race photos are available to purchase from Blowfish Photography, you can search quickly using your race number or by uploading a selfie. You can register now to hear when your photos are up!
Photos are added to their site within 48hrs of the event and there is a 10% discount automatically applied on all purchases made with the first 48hrs of the photos going on sale.
14) T-Shirts - We have our Relish t-shirts with the Two Tunnels train on, made from recycled plastic bottles available to buy on the day; light weight and breathable, in male and female cuts, red and black colours. £30 a t-shirt or £25 for a women's racer back vest.
15) Shared Path - Please follow the basics that we are all accustom to; respect everyone's personal space, take advantage of the additional hygiene measures...and most importantly, remember to smile and enjoy your day! Please remember that we have no priority on the path and runners need to share the path and give way to other users, thank you.
